What's the catch with discount software? Is it a scam? How come you can buy a popular software title having up to 20% discount of the initial price?

There are several popular titles, and I'm talking about all sorts of titles, that are used by millions of persons, around the Globe. A few months ago, anti-spy utilities were very popular.
